CASH accomplishes its mission through operating a portfolio of direct service programs, building organizational and field capacity, and leading policy and advocacy initiatives to strengthen family economic stability.

The CASH Campaign of Maryland was established as a new nonprofit organization in 2017 as a  result of a merger between the CASH Campaigns of Baltimore and Maryland. As long-time partners and allies, these programs joined forces to create one unified organization.

The CASH Campaign of Maryland continues to provide a range of direct services and lead a coalition of partners. The coalition partners include foundations, nonprofits, community-based organizations, government agencies, the Internal Revenue Service, and hundreds of volunteers.

Black Lives Matter Statement

Dear friend,

We are outraged at the continuing wave of Black lives taken by police officers. These are not individual actions. They are the result of hundreds of years of violence against Black lives that started with enslaving Africans for the financial gain of White colonists. We see the legacy of hundreds of years of systemic racism through policies that explicitly stopped Black households from building wealth (more here) and criminalize poverty (more here).

Black residents, particularly men, are arrested, incarcerated, and murdered by police at significantly higher rates than White residents. This must end.

Black Lives Matter

These groups have been leading equality and justice efforts for years in Baltimore. Please support them. Issues of police and criminal justice reform impact every county in Maryland. Please seek out groups doing this work in your area.

CASH’s Commitment

As White leaders at CASH, we don’t want to be part of the problem. We have worked for many years on exposing and closing the racial wealth divide. We remain committed to being part of the solution.

We commit to:

  • Engage deeper in the issues that are the underpinnings of the financial inequality we seek to end.
  • Continuously listen, learn, and do the hard work on ourselves as well as our organization.
  • Be clearly and loudly anti-racist in our communications, on our website, and in our conversations with staff, board, funders, policymakers, partners, and our own families.
  • Deepen our annual review of partnerships and grants awarded  to ensure that they share our values of being anti-racist and are having impact in the Black community and other communities of color.
  • Include a formal review of our own behaviors and actions that uphold white supremacy by our staff and board in our performance reviews.

We continue our pledge to implement these commitments. The “H” in “CASH” stands for “Hope” – let’s all work together toward a more hopeful future.
